Pilea is a large group of frost-tender herbs grown widely as houseplants. They grow from 4-12" tall. They have light gray fern-like foliage with leaves 2-3" long. Flowers are reddish to greenish in color.

A heavy pollinator and member of the nettle family, this genus is likely allergenic. Incidents of allergic reactions are not reported widely in the U.S., however.

Pollen grains are oblate-spheroidal to spheroidal, and are small with a rounded-triangular amb. The grains are 2-4 porate and the pores are circular.
Pollen grains are usually 12-15 micrometers.
